In a significant step towards digital skill development, the Sindh government, in collaboration with Google, has launched a groundbreaking initiative to provide over 30,000 scholarships for digital skills training to students at public sector universities across the province.
The announcement was made at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah at CM House, highlighting the program’s aim to offer Google Career Certificates in high-demand fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity, Digital Marketing, IT Automation, and Project Management.
“This partnership is a testament to our vision of transforming Sindh into a hub of innovation and skill development,” said Chief Minister Shah, emphasizing that the initiative will ensure at least 30% female participation, promoting gender inclusivity.
The Google Career Certificates, developed by experts at Google, allow students to complete flexible online courses in as little as three to six months, with no degree required. Graduates from previous cohorts have secured roles at leading firms, with salaries reportedly reaching up to Rs 1.6 million per month.
A notable success story is that of Leena Kumari, a student from the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, who completed the Google AI Essentials course and landed a position at Evolution, a story which was even highlighted by Google.
The program will expand to 30 public universities and introduce new specializations such as Prompting Essentials and Agile Essentials, complementing the ongoing Soft Skills & Career Kamyabi Sindh Programme, which trains students in CV writing, interview skills, and communication.
Kyle Gardener, Government Affairs & Public Policy Lead at Google, expressed that the initiative reflects Google’s commitment to unlocking new career opportunities for students and contributing to economic growth.
