Sindh Moves to Reclaim Transport Department Lands, Expands Public Bus Service

The Sindh government has initiated efforts to reclaim lands belonging to the Sindh Transport Department, with plans to remove illegal occupations swiftly. At a recent meeting of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) Board, chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, it was decided to collaborate with the chief secretary, IGP, and anti-encroachment authorities to ensure the process is carried out effectively. The meeting also discussed the issuance of notices for government-owned lands, including those with unauthorized buildings.

The board approved the extension of contracts for staff working on the Abdul Sattar Edhi Orange Line BRT project and recommended the permanent appointment of key personnel. Additionally, the SMTA budgets for 2021-22 and 2022-23 were approved.

Sharjeel Inam Memon also reiterated the Sindh government’s commitment to expanding the People’s Bus Service as a relief measure for the public during inflation, with plans to extend it to other cities. He encouraged investors to support and operate buses under the service.
