Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that the Sindh government has decided to fully support farmers on the special instructions of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. He revealed that the provincial government is launching a direct cash assistance program for farmers, under which the first installment of Rs 14,000 per acre will be provided to help purchase DAP fertilizer.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, Sharjeel Inam Memon said the verification process will be completed within two to three weeks after wheat sowing. Farmers whose cultivation is verified will receive an additional Rs 8,000 per acre for purchasing two bags of urea fertilizer. He said this initiative reflects the Sindh government’s firm commitment to strengthening the agriculture sector, supporting small farmers, and achieving food self-sufficiency.
The minister shared that assistance has already been provided to 419,000 farmers, and the funds are being distributed through the “Hari Card” initiative. So far, over 350,000 applications have been received for the Hari Card, with verification for 180,000 farmers completed.
Highlighting the government’s digital reforms, Sharjeel Inam Memon said the e-challan system launched by the Sindh government has received positive public feedback. He mentioned that even prominent businessmen from Karachi have praised the move. “Sometimes, tough decisions are necessary for the greater good. We hope no fines are ever collected—our goal is to promote respect for the law and responsible citizenship,” he added.
Speaking about constitutional matters, the senior minister said that the Constitution was framed by Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the 18th Amendment was passed under the Pakistan Peoples Party’s government, and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari played an active role in the 26th Amendment. He emphasized that the PPP has always upheld democracy, constitutional supremacy, and parliamentary traditions.
He added that all points of the proposed 27th Amendment will be presented before the PPP’s Central Executive Committee (CEC), which will decide in the best interest of Pakistan, its provinces, and its people. “All decisions in the PPP are made through consultation and consensus,” he said.
Responding to another question, Sharjeel Inam Memon clarified that governments are not afraid of anyone but are responsible for enforcing the law. “Fines have been increased to ensure strict compliance with traffic rules,” he said. “If any vehicle is found unfit, it will be confiscated according to the law.”
Commenting on the political situation in Azad Kashmir, he said that political activities are underway and appropriate decisions will be taken at the right time.
On the incident of aerial firing by lawyers, Sharjeel Inam Memon stated, “Everyone is equal before the law. If lawyers engaged in aerial firing, their action was unlawful.”
Regarding the police, he reaffirmed that while every citizen has the right to challenge within legal limits, the government will not tolerate misconduct. “If any wrongdoing by the police is reported, strict and impartial action will be taken,” he concluded.
