PPP to Hold Public Rally in Hyderabad Against Canal Project on April 18: Faryal Talpur

Tando Jam, April 13, 2025 – Ms. Faryal Talpur, President of the People’s Party Ladies Wing, addressed a passionate gathering at Rawal House in Rahooki, where she strongly condemned the proposed six-canal project, branding it a blatant violation of Sindh’s land, water, and agricultural rights. She declared that a monumental public rally will take place in Hyderabad on April 18, where people from every corner of Sindh will come together to fiercely defend their land and water resources.

Faryal Talpur emphasized the tremendous sacrifices made by the people of Sindh, including their martyrs, and affirmed that their struggle for justice would continue unwaveringly. Both President Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari have consistently stood against this project in both Parliament and public forums. She underscored that this is not only an issue for Sindh but one that concerns the entire nation of Pakistan.

Drawing from the enduring legacy of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, Talpur reminded the audience that the PPP has always stood as a symbol of unity for all four provinces. “We will never accept a scenario where Sindh’s fields are deprived of water and the people of Karachi are left parched,” she stated resolutely.

Sharjeel Inam Memon, Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, also addressed the gathering, expressing gratitude to Ms. Faryal Talpur for her leadership and unwavering resolve. He stressed that the canal project is not merely an agricultural issue, but a matter of survival for the 70 million people of Sindh, whose livelihoods depend entirely on the flow of water. Memon made it clear that the PPP will not permit the construction of the controversial canal under any circumstances and urged the people to join the rally on April 18, framing it as a referendum for Sindh’s rights.

PPP Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro reinforced this sentiment, emphasizing that the lives of 70 million people cannot be jeopardized for the sake of a canal project. He highlighted that citizens from all walks of life, including lawyers, students, and activists, are actively protesting against the project, demonstrating widespread opposition across the province.

Provincial Irrigation Minister Jam Khan Shoro reminded the gathering of Hyderabad’s historic and unwavering support for the PPP. He affirmed that the April 18 rally would be an extraordinary moment in the struggle to protect Sindh’s water rights. Shoro also praised President Zardari for his tireless efforts to defend Sindh’s interests in Parliament.

During the event, PPP’s young leader Rawal Sharjeel Memon hosted a reception for the attendees, reflecting on the deep, enduring bond between the people and the PPP. “This relationship is not just about votes; it is a bond of love and trust,” he said, reaffirming the party’s commitment to continue fighting for the people’s rights under the leadership of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

The event was attended by a wide range of party officials, including assembly members, district presidents, town chairmen, and tehsil leaders, all of whom voiced their determination to stand united in the face of this critical challenge and to ensure a resounding show of strength at the rally on April 18.
