Chinese Investors Meet Nasir Shah, Express Interest in Energy Sector Investment

Karachi — Provincial Minister for Energy, Development and Planning, Sindh, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, met with a delegation of Chinese investors at his office today to discuss potential investment opportunities in Sindh’s energy sector. The discussions focused on investment and technology transfer, with the Minister highlighting the promising prospects for both foreign and domestic investors in the region.

During the meeting, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah provided a detailed briefing on the opportunities available in the Thar Coal Field and alternative energy sectors. He emphasized that Sindh offers profitable investment prospects, especially in the Thar Coal Field, which is home to vast reserves of coal, and the rapidly growing alternative energy market. The Sindh government, Shah assured, would extend full cooperation to investors, providing support in documentation, land allocation, and other facilities.

The Minister informed the delegation that Sindh province holds 185 billion tons of coal reserves, with 175 billion tons located in the Thar Coal Field alone. The field spans 9,100 square kilometers, located approximately 395 kilometers from Karachi. There are currently 12 development blocks in the Thar Coal Field, each capable of generating 4,000 to 5,000 megawatts of electricity for up to 30 years. Each block contains reserves ranging from 2 to 5 billion tons of coal.

Syed Nasir Hussain Shah also extended an offer to the Chinese delegation to establish solar panel manufacturing in Sindh. The Minister assured the investors that the provincial government would provide full support for the development of solar energy projects, an area with significant potential for growth.

The Chinese delegation, which included Wang Xin from Wind Power and Xo Zhingang from Solar Energy Companies, expressed strong interest in exploring investment opportunities in Sindh’s energy sector. The meeting was also attended by senior officials, including Secretary Energy Musaddiq Ahmed Khan, MD TharCoal Energy Board Tariq Ali Shah, DG Coal Mines Naseem Al-Ghani Sahto, and COO Sindh Energy Holding Company Tufail Ahmed Khoso.

This collaboration underscores the growing ties between Pakistan and China, particularly in the energy sector, and highlights the strategic role of Sindh in the future of the region’s energy landscape.
