Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, addressing the 13th Convocation of Dawood University of Engineering & Technology (DUET) at the PAF Auditorium, celebrated the university’s extraordinary resurgence—calling it a “renaissance of a proud engineering institution” and a model of transparent, progressive governance. Degrees were conferred upon 413 graduates of the Class of 2025.

In a major highlight of the ceremony, the Chief Minister awarded an Honorary Doctorate to Sindh Minister for Local Government and DUET alumnus Dr Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, recognising his longstanding public service and deep association with the university.

Murad Ali Shah lauded DUET’s dramatic turnaround since February 2023, noting its evolution from a resource-strained institution to a financially self-sustaining university investing confidently in its academic future. He highlighted DUET’s investment of Rs 750 million from its own resources, enabling upgrades such as a state-of-the-art auditorium, new sports ground, renovated hostels, advanced engineering labs, and expanded facilities for computing sciences equipped with modern AVR labs.

He praised the university’s leap in academic indicators — improvements in QS Asia rankings, a significant rise in the Youth Development Programme score (from 53% to 84.13%), and progress across THE SDG metrics. The Chief Minister specially commended Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr Samreen Hussain, Pakistan’s first female engineering VC, for leading comprehensive institutional reforms.

He further noted DUET’s growing industry linkages, its Research Project Development Unit at NASTP Silicon Valley, and an impressive 80% employability trend — with 66% of this year’s graduates already employed.

Addressing students stepping into a world shaped by clean energy transitions and smart technologies, he urged them to embody innovation, integrity, and service as they contribute to society. The ceremony included traditional academic proceedings, culminating with memento presentations to distinguished guests.

The event was attended by ministers, HEC officials, diplomats, faculty, parents and the graduating class, marking a proud moment in DUET’s continuing rise as a leading engineering institution.
