In a landmark step toward strengthening emergency response across Sindh, the provincial government — in partnership with Sindh Integrated Emergency & Health Services (SIEHS) — unveiled a major rescue expansion initiative featuring 110 new highway ambulances, a dedicated marine rescue unit at Keenjhar Lake, and the launch of a Bike Rescue Service for rapid access in congested or hard-to-reach areas.
The ceremony, held on the scenic dyke of Keenjhar Lake, was attended by senior officials, elected representatives and SIEHS leadership.
SIEHS CEO Brig (R) Tariq Lakheir highlighted that the induction of 110 GPS-equipped ambulances, staffed with trained paramedics, will dramatically enhance first-response capability across provincial highways — especially in remote belts. He noted that eight ambulances will cover the high-risk Thatta–Mithi corridor, ensuring that no emergency caller is left waiting for help.
A key feature of the expansion is the deployment of a fully equipped rescue boat at Keenjhar Lake, supported by 10 certified divers trained for deep-water search and recovery.
MPA Qasim Soomro said the unit will serve not only the lake but also nearby canals and distributaries prone to drowning incidents. He announced that in the next phase, marine rescue coverage will extend along the coastline from Karachi to Keti Bandar, Shah Bandar and Badin, including eight specialised rescue boats with divers and emergency technicians.
Provincial Minister Riaz Shah Shirazi hailed the project as a transformative milestone for Sindh’s disaster and emergency management. He said the deployment of divers and a rescue boat at Keenjhar responds directly to long-standing demands of communities in Thatta and Sujawal. “This is a practical and lifesaving step, not a symbolic gesture,” he added.
The event was attended by officials including Director Operations Lutuf Mangrio, Thatta Deputy Commissioner Munawar Abbas Soomro, and 1122 Thatta Incharge Wazir Ali Zour, marking a strong commitment to modernising and expanding Sindh’s emergency response system.
