Karachi | October 29, 2025: The Sindh Government has officially opened the Taj Haider Bridge, located adjacent to Qayyumabad Chowrangi, for public use. Senior Sindh Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, announced that the government remains fully committed to transforming Karachi into a city equipped with modern infrastructure and world-class transport facilities.

The newly opened Taj Haider Bridge will significantly ease traffic flow for commuters traveling to and from the industrial zones of Korangi and surrounding areas. For the initial ten days, the bridge will operate as a one-way route, after which two-way traffic will commence. The old Jam Sadiq Bridge is set to be demolished and replaced with a modern, high-standard structure.

During his media interaction at the site, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the Yellow Line BRT project—being executed in collaboration with the World Bank—is progressing rapidly. Once operational, the Yellow Line BRT will offer citizens a comfortable and efficient travel option, reducing congestion and travel time across Karachi.

He also announced that the People’s Bus Service will soon be expanded to Shikarpur, Khairpur, and Naushahro Feroze, while a new Electric Vehicle (EV) bus route from Gulshan-e-Maymar to Tower will be launched soon, benefiting around 50,000 passengers daily.

Highlighting ongoing development efforts, the minister said the final phase of Shahrah-e-Bhutto will be completed by December, connecting directly to the M-9 Motorway, which will significantly reduce traffic pressure in the city. He added that road restoration and repair works continue across Karachi, including areas affected by recent rains, reaffirming the Sindh Government’s dedication to providing maximum public facilities.

Sharjeel Inam Memon further announced the addition of 500 more buses to Karachi’s public transport fleet, emphasizing the government’s commitment to expanding the city’s mass transit network. He shared that free Pink Scooties are being distributed to women employees and students, along with free training and service facilities — a first-of-its-kind initiative in Pakistan.

He stated, “Karachi remains our top priority because people from across the country come here for work, business, and medical treatment. On the directions of the PPP leadership and the Chief Minister of Sindh, every department is active and working to resolve the city’s issues.”

The minister also highlighted the launch of the Sindh Job Portal (SJP) under the iWork for Sindh initiative, which will link both public and private sector employment opportunities, making job access easier for the youth.

Commenting on traffic regulation, Sharjeel Inam Memon mentioned that the Traffic Police have implemented an e-challan system and urged citizens to follow traffic rules for collective safety and discipline. “If no challans are issued, that would be ideal — it would mean everyone is obeying the law. But if rules are broken, penalties will apply,” he said.

He reiterated that many road accidents occur due to negligence, often claiming the lives of family breadwinners. “Our goal is to protect human life,” he emphasized.

On foreign policy, the minister remarked, “Afghanistan is a brotherly country, and Pakistan has always supported it. However, if Afghanistan is used as a proxy by India to facilitate terrorism in Pakistan, our forces will not tolerate it. Pakistan seeks peace and friendship with all neighbors, but any aggression will be met with a strong and fitting response.”
